Battery rooms & SCADA system rooms are commonly used in pipeline networks. These rooms are located in remote areas like deserts where an available steady power supply is difficult. On hot sunny days temperature inside the room will be very high up to 55 °C also due to direct sun radiation the room temperature will be around 75-80 °C. At this high temperature, the life of electronics inside the room will be reduced.

SIX-A ELITE Passive Cooling System

SIX-A ELITE passive cooling system will eliminate the use of air conditioners to protect electronic panels. It provides a green, maintenance-free, and cost-effective solution to keep the room temperature within the limit.

No power is needed for cooling the room. The device utilizes a combination of heat transfer augmentation techniques to achieve very fast cooling effects. A regular passive cooling system will take a few days for such re-commissioning.

Fast cooling: Short commissioning time

Elite Passive cooling system uses a combination of superconductors and natural convection enhancement techniques for faster cooling. The temperature difference (DT) between the hot internal energy storage unit and the ambient air helps power the cooling system.

During the commissioning, the battery room or shelter room is hot due to high ambient temperature, it will need rapid cooling of room. At this point, the temperature difference, DT is the maximum between the internal heat storage unit and outer ambient temperature which leads to faster cooling.

Working Principle Passive Cooling System

A passive cooling system utilizes the diurnal temperature difference to cool the shelter room. Although the daytime temperatures in hot climates may reach as high as 55 °C & the nighttime temperature is usually between 28-34 °C. This temperature Delta can be maintained at room temperature approx. 38-40 °C.

passive cooling system

A passive cooling system consists an internal energy storage unit that can absorb internal heat generation. The internal energy storage unit continuously stores internal heat, due to this heat absorption its temperature is increasing. An internal heat exchanger is located inside the energy storage unit and is connected to an external heat exchanger using a diode system.

This connection only allows the heat to flow from the internal heat exchanger to the external heat exchanger and not vice versa. As soon as the ambient temperature drops below the internal energy storage unit temperature, the cooling process starts automatically. The internal energy storage unit absorbs the heat from room and expels it to the ambient via the external heat exchanger.

When the ambient temperature rises above the energy storage unit temperature during the daytime, the heat transfer stops due to the diode nature of the system. Thermal insulation ensures that heat gain through the room walls is negligible. Thus, the system can work in the highest recorded temperature environments.

The system uses natural convection to dispel heat from the room. However, usually, such natural convection is an extremely slow process and it takes a few days before the hot incoming water cools to a safe temperature limit. This passive cooling system uses a combination of heat transfer augmentation techniques to enhance this heat transfer and achieve very fast cooling.

Passive Cooling Shelter

The passive cooling shelter is suitable to install in both hazardous and non-hazardous areas due to no electrical parts involved. It is made from a metallic welded structure. The metallic welded structure can resist different types of Wind loads, live loads, dead loads, lifting loads, and earthquake loads as per the seismic zones. The welded structure is covered by metallic sandwich-type panels (interlock type). In the sandwich-type metallic wall panel, thermal insulation as per passive cooling application is inserted.
